The first new building in Lakewood Ranch's entertainment cluster opens October 12, and it is a health club. Next comes a food-truck venue with a stage and a lawn, and that date has already moved from November to early 2027. The go-kart and bowling complex is aiming for spring 2027. Lakewood Ranch Commercial expects the full district to be built out by early summer 2027. So the district arrives in pieces over roughly nine months. For the season starting now, most evenings out will still happen at Waterside Place and on Main Street.
The Dates, in the Order They Arrive
- Wednesday, October 7: Ranch Nite Wednesdays returns to Waterside Place, 6 to 9 p.m., and runs weekly through May 26, 2027.
- Saturday, October 10: The Lakewood Ranch Main Street Market opens its 2026–27 season at 8141 Lakewood Main Street, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with more than 70 local vendors.
- Monday, October 12: Life Time Lakewood Ranch opens at 5000 Lakewood Ranch Blvd N.
- Friday, October 30: BooFest, a free family Halloween event, runs on Main Street from 6 to 9 p.m.
- Early 2027: Backyard Social's revised target at 6400 Professional Parkway.
- Spring 2027: SkyTrack's advertised opening at 6500 Professional Parkway West.
The Waterside Place Farmers' Market keeps its usual schedule every Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 1561 Lakefront Drive, with more than 100 vendors. On October 18, its Kids' Zone adds a BotTanks robotics activity.
October 12: A Health Club Opens First
Life Time's 86,000-square-foot club sits on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard south of University Parkway. Your Observer places it next to Gold Coast Eagle Distributing, across the boulevard from Urban Air. Urban Air's trampoline and adventure park is the one part of the district that is already open.
Earlier estimates said "fall 2026" or "late 2026." The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported in July that the club would open in October. The club's own page now gives a firm date of October 12.
Life Time's most detailed preview describes a club that will host a lot of social time alongside the workouts:
- An outdoor leisure pool, a lap pool, waterslides, and an outdoor poolside bistro and bar
- 11 outdoor pickleball courts, five of them covered, plus three indoor courts
- A full-service LifeCafe with lounge and bar seating
- A LifeSpa for body, skin, hair, and nail services, and a LifeClinic offering chiropractic care by appointment
- Kids Academy for ages 3 months to 11 years, with an outdoor play area
- A complimentary Life Time Work coworking lounge, four studios, recovery equipment, and locker rooms with sauna, steam room, whirlpool, and cold plunge
Those numbers changed between announcements. Life Time's earlier first-look article listed five outdoor courts and three indoor. Your Observer's March story reported 14 courts in all and two lap pools. The court count and pool layout will be settled once the doors open on the 12th. Until then, the latest preview is the best guide.
A café, a poolside bar, and a coworking lounge make this a place to spend an afternoon, which is why the club works as the district's opening piece even though its main business is fitness. For about the next six months, it will also be the only new building in the cluster that is open.
Backyard Social Moves to Early 2027
Backyard Social is the venue built most directly around evenings out. It is coming from Fort Myers, and this will be its second location. It sits at 6400 Professional Parkway, just south of Urban Air. Plans call for a one-story building of about 12,500 square feet that can open to the air or close up with air conditioning, depending on the weather. Inside there will be a coffee shop and a private event space. Outside, a lawn will have a tiki bar and a 6,000-square-foot stage for local and national bands.
Food will come from trucks instead of a traditional kitchen. In March, the lineup included Gigi Gourmet, Gigi's Chicken Coop, Gyros2Go, Lobster Chef, and Box Car Cantina, though the Beacon notes that roster may have changed since then. Games will include duckpin bowling, darts, shuffleboard, cornhole, and a golf simulator. All ages are welcome until 9 p.m., and the venue is 21 and over after that.
The owners already know the area. Mat Baum, president of Wolverine Management, is behind the project with partner John Mann. Baum and Matt Faul, Wolverine's chief operating officer, also co-own Agave Bandido at Waterside Place. Baum explained his thinking in a February 2022 statement about that restaurant:
"People want to have an exciting dining experience without driving half an hour into the city."
In March, Baum told Your Observer he was aiming for mid-November 2026. In September, a spokesperson told the Bradenton Herald the team is now looking at early 2027. The Herald reported that no specific projected opening date has been set. Backyard Social's website still says "Winter 2026" for Lakewood Ranch, so the September reporting is the more recent word.
SkyTrack Rounds Out the District in 2027
SkyTrack is the biggest piece and the latest to open. It is going up at 6500 Professional Parkway West. Its website says "Spring 2027" and notes that pre-opening hiring for karting operations, food and beverage, and guest services "starts soon." Plans include electric go-karts, arcade and VR games, bowling, mini-golf, a restaurant, and bars. Your Observer reported that the project broke ground March 10 and identified Dr. Wael Alokeh as a co-owner. At that time it gave a projected opening of May 1, 2027. No newer dated local report has updated that day, and the company's own "Spring 2027" is the safer guide.
Amanda Zipperer, director of property management and leasing for Lakewood Ranch Commercial, told Your Observer the district has been part of the community's long-term development plan for years. She expects it to be fully built out by early summer 2027. That puts the district's evening venues on track to open around the end of the 2026–27 season.
Until Then, Waterside Place Hosts Wednesday Nights
With Backyard Social and SkyTrack still under construction, the weeknight event most like what the district promises is back at Waterside Place on October 7. Ranch Nite Wednesdays runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at 1560 Lakefront Drive. It has food trucks, drinks to go from restaurants' outdoor bars, live music, and a cornhole league hosted by MVP Sports & Social, which the event page calls the largest recreational cornhole league in the nation.
Opening night has a full lineup. Trucks include Two Guys To Go, Mr. Bulgogi, Pilars Empanadas, Southern Smoked by JP, Toast Thyme, Say Cheese Curd Company, Wingz N Tings, Dirty Sara-Soda, and BiteMeCookies by Cindy, and The Kara Nally Band plays. Gateway Park has a different activity each week of the month, so October looks like this:
Gateway Park in October
- October 7: Goat yoga with Blissful Goat Yoga. Registration is required.
- October 14: Drop-in line dancing, 6 to 9 p.m.
- October 21: Sunset drop-in Pilates with BODYBAR at 6 p.m. Registration is required.
- October 28: 9-hole mini golf, 6 to 9 p.m.
Dogs are welcome on a short leash. Leave coolers at home, because outside food and drinks aren't allowed. Main Street handles the weekend. Its market opens Saturday, October 10, and BooFest brings trick-or-treating, a kids' zone, and live music to 8100 Lakewood Main St. on October 30.
Road Closures for Drivers Coming From SR 70
Neighborhoods off State Road 70 have extra road closures to plan around this month. Starting Monday, October 5, FDOT is closing Polo Trail at SR 70 for about 30 days, which cuts off Polo Run's entrance from the highway. A full detour with message boards will be in place, and the road is expected to reopen in early November, weather permitting. Panther Ridge's main entrance at SR 70 and 197th Street East closed September 30 for roughly 45 days, which points to about mid-November.
Both closures are part of FDOT's $67 million project to widen 3.1 miles of SR 70 between Lorraine Road and Bourneside Boulevard. The work adds roundabouts at Uihlein Road, Del Webb Boulevard, and Bourneside Boulevard, along with 10-foot shared-use paths. Paths inside the active work zone are not open to the public yet. FDOT's detailed update puts completion in summer 2027. That is about when Professional Parkway is expected to be fully built out. For questions about the closures, FDOT community outreach representative Alice Ramos can be reached at 941-290-6769.
